Industry Development Overview
Learn more about GVPTA's programs and initiatives that support the industry and professional development within the theatre sector.
Professional Development
We offer a range of workshops, webinars, and info sessions throughout the year to help inform and offer learning opportunities for the theatre community.
Making a Scene Conference
Since 2000, our annual Making a Scene programming has been essential to building and maintaining a community that fosters support, understanding and a common goal of strengthening the local theatre industry.
Hello Program
GVPTA's Hello program provides an online platform for theatre hiring personnel to learn about theatre workers seeking employment opportunities. Theatre performers, designers, stage managers, production managers, and technical directors can apply for the opportunity to share introductory videos to get on the radar of directors, producers, and other theatre hiring personnel. Application intake is twice annually.
Pathways Program
The Pathways program is a year-long process that supports arts, culture, and heritage practitioners to learn, reflect, and integrate equity and access more deeply into their work. Participants are supported with individualized learning plans, peer networks, and one-on-one guidance.
This program is a collaborative effort between Arts BC, the BC Museums Association (BCMA), the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance (GVPTA), and the Rural Arts Inclusion Lab (RAIL). This group works in a trust-based co-leadership model.
Gatherings
REFLECT: Radical Empathy For Leaders: Equity, Connection & Time
Offering community-focused cultural leaders a funded opportunity for a cohort-based learning experience to support, develop and enhance their leadership in the cultural sector. Participants are engaged in a year-long process of learning, sharing, building, rethinking, and leading alongside a community of peers.
REFLECT is a joint initiative between The Cultch and the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance (GVPTA), in collaboration with the City of Vancouver Arts Culture and Tourism.
Digital Connections
GVPTA's Digital Connections Program offered underrepresented theatre artists a paid opportunity for training on effective communication and promotion of their digital or hybrid projects and connected them with regional, national, and international presenters.
Mentorship
GVPTA's Technical Mentorship Pilot Program provided opportunities for the next generation of leaders in technical roles within the theatre community to learn from experts in their fields as well as from their peers.
Micro Subsidy Pilot Program
Our Micro-Subsidy Pilot Program was designed to lower financial barriers for artists to participate in professional development activities that enable them to advance their arts practice.
