Join TodayThe Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance (GVPTA) is the professional association for live theatre in Metro Vancouver and the only arts service organization in British Columbia dedicated exclusively to professional theatre.Founded in 1976, GVPTA supports theatre artists, organizations, and administrators through advocacy, education, visibility, and opportunities to connect. Our work strengthens the local theatre industry and supports a vibrant, sustainable professional theatre community. As an arts service organization, GVPTA is accountable not only to our members, but to the broader theatre community. Our programs and priorities are shaped by the needs of those working in theatre, and by our role within the wider arts and cultural sector.

Who Can Join?
GVPTA’s province-wide membership is intentionally broad and inclusive. Our members include:
- Theatre organizations, ensembles, production companies, and collectives
- Educational institutions, venues, and arts service organizations
- Multi-disciplinary and non-theatre arts organizations connected to the performing arts
- Performers, designers, producers, stage managers, technicians, administrators, consultants, publicists, students, and arts supporters

Membership Categories + Benefits
Our membership model aims to expand GVPTA's community-building initiatives. As part of our commitment to equity, inclusivity, and accessibility, we offer a sliding scale membership–a pay-what-you-can-afford structure. By reducing barriers to entry, our aim is to expand our membership and make participation accessible to more members of the theatre community.
Our members are vital to GVPTA. Your membership enables us to carry out our mission of strengthening the broader theatre community.
We offer membership categories for theatre companies or groups, associates, and individuals. Click the buttons below to learn more about each membership category.
Theatre Company
2025-2026 Annual Fees and Benefits for Company Members are based on three categories:
- Theatre Company
Producing and presenting companies based in Metro Vancouver
- Annual Fees range from $89 to $1,164, with a sliding scale range based on the annual operating budget.
- Emerging and start-up companies with an annual budget of less than $100k are eligible for a reduced rate of $50–$89 per year, for up to their first two membership years.
- Annual Festival
Performing arts festivals, based in Metro Vancouver, where the primary activity is an annual festival where theatre performance is a component
- Annual Fee range is a sliding scale between $75 to $300
- Provincial Colleagues
Producing and presenting companies based outside of Metro Vancouver
- Annual Fee range is a sliding scale between $50 to $200
Associate
Associate Members include educational institutions, performing arts venues, arts service organizations, multi-disciplinary and non-theatre arts organizations, and service providers connected with the performing arts.
2025-2026 Annual Fees
Annual Fee range for Associate Members is a sliding scale between $50 to $200.
Individuals
Individual members include performers, designers, producers, directors, stage managers, production managers, technical directors, technicians, administrators, consultants, and other artists, arts workers, and arts supporters.

2025–2026 Annual Fees
As an Individual Member the annual fee range is $20 to $75 per year.
We recognize that artists and arts workers have varying levels of capacity to join as a member. We ask individuals to choose the fee amount based on their financial capacity and expected value from their membership.
