WHY BECOME A MEMBER?

The Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance (GVPTA) is the professional association for live theatre in Metro Vancouver. It’s the only arts service organization specifically focused on professional theatre in British Columbia. Formed in 1976, and incorporated in 1987, we play a unique role in the community: we offer programs and services to support the development of theatre practitioners as artists and administrators, and ultimately to help strengthen the local theatre industry.

In addition to benefit entitlements specifically for our membership, we support our members and the larger theatre community through the provision of education, publicity, and opportunities for convening.

Our membership includes 70+ theatre companies; over 120 individual theatre artists, students, publicists and patrons; as well as educational institutions and organizations from around the region that support the theatre industry.

As a member you’ll be plugged into the middle of this artistic community where you can connect with the region’s most committed theatre artists, gain inspiration, form connections, and be a part of this thriving live theatre industry.

Who is eligible to become a member?

Working theatre professionals, production companies and collectives, theatre venues, educators, theatre-related businesses, and pretty much anyone working in, involved with, or supporting live theatre. Actors, producers, designers, directors, students, educators, administrators and audience members are all needed in the creation and experience of theatre; therefore, any theatre-related organization, or anyone who loves or participates in theatre is welcome to become a member.

The Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance (GVPTA) strives to strengthen the local theatre industry. We do this through providing services, promotion of member news and community events, opportunities to connect and network, and our annual theatre conference. Together with our members we are raising the profile of local theatre and building community.

At GVPTA, we acknowledge that our organization is located on the traditional, unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
