COVID-19 Impact SURVEY Summary

British Columbia Arts and Culture Sector

Fill out or share the survey link: https://www.gvpta.ca/covid19_survey

What is this survey?
We have been collecting data since March 12, 2020 in order to better understand the impact COVID-19 has had on arts and culture organizations across the province. This summary of data is only a partial representation of the impact COVID-19 has had on the sector. We recognize that this survey is currently only available in English and is meant to be completed digitally, which leaves out some communities and artists from accessing this survey. We also know that other organizations have sent out surveys targeting specific communities, disciplines, and languages. We continue to look at how we can best share aggregate data in order to support a broader strategy.

We are working with arts service organizations across B.C. and nationally, and across disciplines to support our sector through, and recover from, this pandemic.

What will I see in the summary report?
The summary report includes only the quantitative data that was collected as part of Version 1 & 2 (March 12-April 7) and Version 3 (April 8 to May 20) of the survey. Each iteration of the survey has included selection of consistent questions as well as new and expanded questions. The summary report includes the number of responses for each of the questions so you are able to better understand the percentage breakdown.

Are the results updated live?
Not live updates, but it is being updated regularly as we get a batch of new data. As we receive new survey submissions, we review and validate the data, then upload in batches.

I'm a funder, government representative, or an arts service organization. Is it possible to ask for segmented reports?
Yes, we could segment the data. Send me an email at kenji@gvpta.ca and we can chat about what's possible based on the number of responses for a particular segment.

While we cannot share the original raw data (which includes names and contact information), we can work with you to see what segmented data could be used in order to augment what you have. For example:

  1. if you have data from the broader BC-based non-profit sector (beyond arts and culture), we could potentially combine economic impact data from your dataset (removing arts and culture organizations) with our economic impact data (only arts and culture).
  2. If you have a national survey specifically for visual artists, we could potentially look at regional or discipline-specific segments in.
  3. If you are a municipal funder and are looking for segment for only those in your municipality or region, that's possible with sufficient respondents from your area.

Would be happy to discuss this with you.

How is the summary affected if an organization, artist, or arts worker submits the form multiple times?
We encourage organizations, artists, and arts workers to resubmit the form as new decisions are made or new realities of the impact are realized. As we go through and validate data, we do our best to only present the most recent information that was submitted for a single respondent.

Who can I direct my questions to?
Please contact GVPTA Executive Director Kenji Maeda at kenji@gvpta.ca.
