Position: Company Apprentice
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia
Duration: Full time, August – June
Pacific Theatre aspires to delight, provoke and stimulate dialogue by producing theatre that rigorously explores the spiritual aspects of human experience. In over 30 seasons, Pacific Theatre has produced more than 150 professional mainstage productions ranging from established works to original world premieres featuring some of the top theatre artists from Vancouver and across the continent.
Pacific Theatre offers a full-time professional apprenticeship program for emerging artists and administrators who are looking to improve their craft as theatre artists. The Company Apprenticeship is composed of three primary, intersecting categories of activity: Artistic, Administrative, and Production. Apprentices will be charged with collectively producing several projects of their choosing throughout the year. They are invited to participate artistically in mainstage productions both in their primary focus areas, and areas that will round out their experience in professional theatre. This work may include: acting or understudying in a mainstage production, training and mentorship sessions with company artists, assisting the creative and design team, and providing hands-on assistance in areas of production, and administration, etc. These opportunities will vary depending on the needs of the season. Half of the apprentice’s time will be spent working on administrative tasks, mostly in the capacity of Box Office and Front-of-House staff. Apprentices will be periodically required by the Production Manager to participate in crew calls. Since apprentices are responsible for planning and producing their own projects, applicants should be self-starters who have an idea of what type of projects they want to accomplish. A major goal of the apprenticeship is to provide emerging artists with an artistic home in the Vancouver Theatre community and to guide and assist apprentices in their artistic endeavors. We want to establish relationships with these emerging artists that will last long after their apprenticeship ends and help connect them with the theatre community at large.
