Vancouver Theatre Guide

March 27 is World Theatre Day! It was created as an annual event in 1961 by UNESCO’s International Theatre Institute (ITI), the world’s largest organization for the performing arts, to celebrate all things live theatre.

THE GOALS OF WORLD THEATRE DAY

  • promote the art of theatre to the world
  • make people aware of the value of theatre
  • share joy with others through live performance

Various national and international theatre events are organized to mark this occasion. One of the most important of these is the circulation of the World Theatre Day International Message through which at the invitation of ITI, a figure of world stature shares his or her reflections on the theme of Theatre and a Culture of Peace.

THE 2017 WORLD THEATRE DAY MESSAGES:

The Canadian message: The 2017 message, written by Gilles Poulin-Denis (Vancouver-based playwright, director, actor and translator), is available in both official languages HERE

The International message: The 2017 message, written by Isabelle Huppert, French theatre and cinema actress, is available in multiple languages HERE
